Description
Kastania’s run of victories and conquests has compelled their neighbours to gather together in various alliances to wage war on the resurgent empire. So it came to pass that three of Kastania’s cities or fortresses were besieged by three different enemies, each with their own ambitions to take whatever they could from the embattled empire.
Leading the defence of the capital, one of the cities under siege, was emperor Jorqel, but his task was made so much harder by his four offspring who presented more problems for him to deal with, or else he was sure the opposition in the council would use this as a lever to depose him.
Jorqel’s many problems compel him to try to steer as sensible a course as possible, but this is unsatisfactory to his fire-eating daughter, Zora, who publicly accuses him of being a coward. This results in her being imprisoned underneath the palace in Kastan City and she will remain there unless she apologises to her father, something she just cannot do.
Her incarceration will be a trial of her temperance and she wonders whether she can endure a winter in the foul prison she is being kept in, but there might be salvation around the corner from an unexpected source.
